The Tennessee World Affairs Council partnered with the Putnam County Library Friends on Sunday, February 17, 2008 to host a presentation by Tennessee Tech's Doctor Michael Gunter -- widely recognized expert on the Kurds in Iraq -- on his new book "The Kurds Ascending."  Here is the audio recording from the event and information about his book.

The Tennessee World Affairs Council was well represented at the 2008 annual conference of the Tennessee World Affairs and pitched in to help by recording all of the plenary sessions and posting the audio files to the TNWAC.org web site.  Click here to visit the special section on WACA 2008.

 
 

A delegation representing the World Affairs Councils of America toured Effat College, an all women's college, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as part of their leadership mission to the Kingdom. Tennessee World Affairs Council represented on WACA Leadership Delegation Visit to Saudi Arabia

A delegation representing the World Affairs Councils of America is in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from November 30-December 8, 2007.  Among the representatives from the Council system are members from Alaska, California, Montana, Michigan, New York, Virginia and Tennessee.  TN WAC President Patrick Ryan is touring the Kingdom with the group and will share his perspectives on Saudi Arabia, including a gallery of new photos upon his return.

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States Petr Kolar was hosted by the Tennessee World Affairs Council for visits with students at Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee, the Senator Howard Baker Center for Public Policy in Knoxville, meetings with Governor Bredesen and local business people.  Check here for the story of how it went.

Leadership Putnam Youth Briefed on World Affairs

CLICK HERE for more information and photographs on this event.Cookeville, TN – The nuclear weapons threat posed by North Korea and Iran, the genocide in Darfur, the global war on terrorism and the world’s sources of energy for the United States were among the topics raised by twenty four Putnam County high school students during briefings at the Tennessee World Affairs Council office in Cookeville. The rising juniors from area schools were participants in the week-long Leadership Putnam Youth Academy.     [more]
