The Tennessee World Affairs Council was organized to develop and deliver informative and educational programs to the community and students.  These programs include those developed locally to meet specific needs in our area and those available through the national network of World Affairs Councils.

The availability of these programs is directly related to the funding made available by support from individuals like you, as well as corporate giving programs and foundation grant making.  Please help make these important programs available through your generous support.

Tennessee World Affairs Council -- Distinguished Visiting Speaker Progam

A hallmark of the World Affairs Council system around the country is the effort to bring knowledgeable, experienced speakers to communities that would not otherwise have the opportunity to listen to and question these speakers.

Identifying, inviting, and hosting distinguished speakers is one of TN WAC's featured programs -- and is specifically addressed in the Preamble to the Bylaws.  The Council, will seek thoughtful, provocative, experienced speakers from various fields, such as the American and foreign diplomatic communities, academia, the military, the business world, and elsewhere.

The Council will work with partnering organizations -- civic groups, universities, schools, corporate partners, and others -- to host the distinguished visiting speakers in appropriate sessions, such as town hall meetings, school visits, and civic club programs.

We are fortunate to have, from time to time, invitations from the national office of the World Affairs Councils of America to host speakers that show an interest in visiting local Councils.  The TN WAC will coordinate these availabilities with our civic partners to ensure the maximum exposure in our community and schools is provided for these visiting speakers.

To check on opportunities offered from WACA concerning visiting speakers visit our listing of announcements.  We encourage concerned organizations to contact TN WAC to coordinate the visits of those speakers offered by WACA and those opportunities developed locally.  We will maintain a list of prospective speakers for TN WAC partners to consult for coordination purposes.

Opportunities to participate in visiting speaker programs -- town hall meetings, school programs and so forth -- will be announced through our web site home page, our calendar and our "What's New" section.  Also, if you are a member -- please join TN WAC -- you will be notified of upcoming opportunities such as Distinguished Visiting Speaker Program events.

Please contact us if you have suggestions or questions about the Distinguished Visiting Speaker Program.

You can learn more about our past Distinguished Visiting Speaker Program events by checking the TN WAC press releases index.

PROGRAMS

The programs of the Tennessee World Affairs Council can be roughly divided between those developed for community groups, town hall meetings and so forth, and those appropriate for educational outreach in our schools.  However, some programs, like the distinguished visiting speaker program, are appropriate for all audiences.

Your feedback and participation will be greatly appreciated as we work to bring these programs to our community and schools.  For more information on volunteering to help click here.
